School of Medicine EDI Committee Celebrates International Women's Day 2026
Rising Voices: Women Shaping the Future of Medical Research was a rousing success.
The School of Medicine’s inaugural EDI committee event, Rising Voices: Women Shaping the Future of Medical Research to mark International Women's Day was very well attended, with approximately 60 participants from a wide range of departments within the School, reflecting strong cross-departmental engagement.
Taking place on 13th March in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, the event featured short research presentations from early-career faculty representing seven departments within the school, which generated much discussion, audience engagement and positive feedback from attendees. Overall, there was a very positive and supportive atmosphere, with valuable insights shared on research careers, opportunities, and challenges. Key themes included the importance of generating meaningful impact from research and the value of strong mentorship throughout career development.
Many thanks to Prof. Aideen Sullivan for opening the event and for her reflections on the importance of marking International Women’s Day and the role of the School of Medicine EDI Committee. Thanks also to the School of Medicine for providing refreshments, to the speakers for their excellent contributions, and to all who attended and supported this important event.
