Change the Beat

An exhibition by young asylum seekers, refugees and migrants on display at venues across Cork city.

These artworks are part of an exhibition called Change the Beat! that showcases risograph prints by teenage asylum seekers, refugees and migrants who worked with artist Shane O’Driscoll and the Glucksman during August 2019. The teenagers were invited to explore their relationship to music through creative activities at the Glucksman art museum, developing a greater understanding of their own musical habits and how the music they listen to represents who they are and who they hope to become. Drawing inspiration from album artwork, mixtapes and the DIY culture of zines, the group of 27 participating teenagers, aged between 13-18 years, created these prints under the guidance of the artist. The artworks are exhibited at The Glucksman; Badly Made Books; Cork Flower Studio; Cork Opera House; Gate Cinema; Pink Moon café; Plugd Records; and Nano Nagle Place. We hope that you will discover the artworks across the city during the month of October.
