Drawing on data gathered on academics’ involvement in Athena SWAN self-assessment teams, in this seminar Dr Ruth Pearce will present a critical analysis of the Athena SWAN charter mark, problematizing its operationalization while also exploring its potential as a site of resistance and a means to foster collective solidarity to work against neoliberal practices.
Ruth Pearce is a Research Fellow in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds. Her research explores issues of inequality, marginalization, power and political struggle from a trans feminist perspective. Ruth's monograph, Understanding Trans Health: Discourse, Power and Possibility was published by Policy Press in 2018. She writes about her work and interests at http://ruthpearce.net
