UCCDH graduate receives prestigious NUI Club London Award

4 Dec 2019

Patrick O'Toole, a graduates of UCC's BA in Digital Humanities & Information Technology, has received this year's NUI Club London Award.

The NUI Club London Award is given to the top student of the final year of that years chosen discipline. In 2019, digital humanities was the chosen discipline. This scholarship was introduced for the first time in 2005. It was established as a memorial scholarship, funded by a bequest from the NUI Club London following its dissolution in 2003. The scholarship is offered for competition in a different subject every year.

The scholarship is awarded each year to the top student on a bachelor’s degree programme that is unique within the NUI federal system of constituent universities, recognised colleges, and linked colleges.

The 2019 recipient of the scholarship is Patrick O'Toole, a recent graduate of UCC's BA in Digital Humanities & Information Technology.

Commenting on the success, Patrick said:

"To receive this award for my studies in digital humanities was a wonderful surprise and to graduate with this recognition of the hard work undertaken over the past four years, I am truly grateful. I have experienced many high points through my experiences in my studies in DH and in UCC in general, that for every one of the highs I thought that was as high as it gets, but I was wrong time and time again.

"It is the wonderful lecturers and staff in DH, Religion and Global Diversity, and Computer Science that supported my ideas and presented the opportunities for me to be where I am now. So thank you for that. I think this award also solidifies the impression that mature students are big nerds who sit at the front of the class."
