The significance of humanities scholarship in challenging times

25 March 2021: Discussion forum and reading group
All interested colleagues and postgraduate researchers in CACSSS were invited to an informal discussion, in which we exchanged thoughts about our work in the humanities disciplines, sharing what matters to us as scholars and teachers, reflecting on our research as a source of continuity, consolation and critical insight in times of difficulty, and providing each other with support. Each meeting began with a brief reading. The texts for March 2021 were excerpts from Simon Marginson, The Dream is Over: The Crisis of Clark Kerr's California Idea of Higher Education (2016) and Higher Education and the Common Good (2016). The following texts were chosen for subsequent discussion groups: Hannah Arendt, 'The Crisis in Education' (1954), bell hooks: 'Teaching to Transgress' (1994).
