  • The ceremony highlighted the diverse pathways students take to university success.

Undergraduate students across Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences were celebrated at the Quercus College Scholarships Awards Ceremony hosted by UCC College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS). The event recognised scholars who have achieved outstanding academic results, with each awardee receiving a €500 scholarship in recognition of their excellence.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Cathal O’Connell, Interim Head of UCC College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, said: “The Quercus Scholars represent the very best of academic excellence, dedication, and ambition. Drawn from the highest-achieving students across all programmes, they embody the spirit of talent, creativity and dedication that defines our university.”

“No matter the path they have taken - whether through the Leaving Certificate route or innovative pathways like Adult Education, Further Education, Apprenticeships, or Recognition of Prior Learning - each student brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that enriches our academic community. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and support them on their new and exciting academic journeys,” Prof. O’Connell said.

The Quercus College Scholarships are awarded based on the results of summer first, second, and third year university examinations across undergraduate programmes, including BA Arts., BA Anthropology, Physical Education, Sports Studies and Arts BEd, BSc Government and Political Science, BA Film and Screen Media, BSocSc Bachelor of Social Work and BSocSc Youth and Community Work.

To be eligible, students must achieve a first-class honours standard with a minimum total mark of 840 out of 1200 at their first examination attempt. The scholarships are awarded to the highest-scoring student in each programme year.

The ceremony acknowledges the dedication of students and celebrates the vibrant academic community fostered within UCC College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences.
