Centre for Local and Regional Governance – Annual Public Lecture Series

The eighth annual public lecture series of the Centre for Local and Regional Governance (CLRG) takes places in UCC on the night of Thursday 9 November, under the theme of ‘In Defence of Councillors’.

Opening remarks will be made by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Kieran McCarthy and the evening will be chaired by the Head of the Department of Government and Politics, Dr. Mary C. Murphy. Dr. Aodh Quinlivan will present a report on the activities of the CLRG over the past twelve months.

The three keynote lectures will be delivered by:

  • Dr. Bríd Quinn - Formerly of the University of Limerick, respected local government academic, member of the Council of Europe’s Group of Independent Experts, member of the Expert Advisory Group supporting the Dublin Citizens’ Assembly.
  • Councillor Emma Blain - Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, part of the Irish delegation as a member of the European Committee of the Regions, recent presentation to Oireachtas Taskforce on security and safety in public life.
  • Professor Colin Copus – formerly Professor of Local Politics at De Montfort University, Leicester, currently visiting Professor at Ghent University, author of the acclaimed book, In Defence of Councillors.  
  • The Jane Dowdall and Philip Monahan Awards will also be presented on the night.

 

CLRG23 starts at 6.30pm sharp in Kane G_18 on Thursday 9th November. ALL WELCOME.
