Peter Flood
Biography
Peter Flood was awarded a B.Sc. in Cell and Molecular Biology (2012) and a PhD (2017) from University College Dublin. During his PhD, Peter developed novel 3D cell culture models to study infection processes and epithelial functions. He then joined APC Microbiome Ireland as a post-doctoral researcher on an industry-sponsored programme. His research focused on applying patient-derived organoids (“miniguts”) to study the immunopathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and to develop new therapeutic approaches for this disease. He has experience directing and managing translational research projects in collaboration with clinical teams, academic researchers and industry scientists. In April 2023, he became Lab Manager for the AUGMENT project, an SFI Research Professorship Programme that is investigating precision medicine in relation to gut inflammation and the microbiome.
