Community Relations
Community Liaison
The Student Experience Office is dedicated to fostering a safe and secure environment for all UCC students, while also ensuring a harmonious relationship between students and the wider community. We respond to resident complaints and actively promote responsible behaviour among students.
For further information, please refer to the Campus Watch Guidelines, which should be completed and returned to campuswatch@ucc.ie.
Being a Good Neighbour
UCC students often live in established residential areas, where their neighbours may have different lifestyles. To maintain positive community relations, we encourage students to:
✔ Be mindful of noise levels, particularly at night.
✔ Show consideration for older residents who may need assistance.
✔ Report any suspicious activity or intruders to your local Garda Station—just as you would expect neighbours to look out for your own family members.
Safety & Preparedness
For your safety and the security of your neighbourhood, we recommend:
- Keeping emergency contact numbers (local Garda Station, fire brigade, medical services) clearly visible near your phone.
Student Discipline & Community Relations
We maintain close contact with local community groups, residents’ associations, and Community Gardaí to ensure a strong connection between students and their communities. With over 9,000 students living in rented accommodation, the number of complaints about student behaviour remains low.
However, in cases where complaints arise:
- They are addressed immediately.
- If necessary, complaints may be referred to the Student Disciplinary Committee.
- Under Student Rules, formal disciplinary action may be taken in serious cases—though this is rarely required.
By respecting the community and acting responsibly, students help maintain a positive reputation for themselves and UCC.
