Pearl Prendergast is awarded a scholarship from the Health Research Board

Pearl Prendergast was successful in obtaining a HRB Summer Studentship – her project is entitled “Health Literacy and Medication Adherence Among Older Community Dwelling Adults”. 

This project is a collaboration between Dr Suzanne McCarthy and Dr Laura Sahm of the School of Pharmacy, UCC and Mr Keith O’Hourihane and the staff of Pharmacy First Plus. Pearl will be interviewing older patients about their medicine taking behaviour and linking this to patients’ demographics, patients’ health literacy and patients’ beliefs about medicines. We hope that this will provide some very interesting and useful information which will help in the future to devise interventions to improve patient care in the community.
