Dr Patricia Fitzgerald Dept. Pharmacology presents John David Kehoe with the BPS Award for Clinical Pharmacology 2016-2017

Congratulations to John David Kehoe who has been awarded both the British Pharmacological Society Prize for Clinical Pharmacology and the Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart Medical Scholarship in Pharmacology

The British Pharmacological Society  (BPS) Prize is intended to foster interest in Clinical Pharmacology. The Society has subscribed to a fund for the provision of an annual prize, which also includes a certificate from the Society and a bursary towards attendance at a BPS meeting. The BPS Prize is awarded to the student who gains first place overall in Medical Pharmacology at the Third Medical University Examination. This prize is sponsored by the British Pharmacological Society for which the School of Medicine and the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics are very grateful.

The Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart Literary & Medical Scholarships & Prizes are among the oldest awards to be offered for competition by the NUI. First established in 1888 following a bequest from the estate of Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart, these awards were initially made by the Royal University of Ireland until its dissolution in 1908 and were then continued by the National University of Ireland (NUI). Under the terms of the trust it was provided that two-thirds of the income be allocated for the provision of medical scholarships and one-third for the provision of literary scholarships.

The awards are based on the results of examinations in those subjects in the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Constituent NUI Universities and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

The recipients of the Scholarship and Medals in each subject are determined by an external examiner, who considers selected examination material of the students nominated by each of the constituent Universities and recognised colleges.

In certain subjects, students are nominated by their University/College to sit an essay-based examination on the outcome of which the awards will be made. Students in the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences in each of the constituent Universities, and RCSI are automatically eligible for consideration for these Scholarships. There are no special application procedures or entry requirements

There are no special application procedures or entry requirements for these scholarships and prizes.
