On the 14th May 2018, eleven participants from the School of Nursing and Midwifery University College Cork and Health Service Providers successfully completed a 5 Day Patient Assessment In-House Workshop facilitated by Practitioner Development UK. Following completion of this course it is envisaged that each member of this stellar group will become a member of the Health & Physical Assessment Team here in the School who presently deliver a Health and Physical Assessment Module across a number of Programmes. The content of the workshop included an introduction to history taking, physical examination techniques, skin essentials and a fundamental assessment of key body systems culminating in a head to toe physical examination. This particular 5 Day Workshop is the first step for many in the group in becoming proficient in the delivery of Health and Physical Assessment. However, the journey is only beginning as now each member of the group is committed to developing their skills in practice, be it in acute care or at a community level (e.g. GP Practice).
