In recognition of the School being awarded the Athena Swan Bronze Award, Professor Josephine Hegarty, Head of School, honored this prestigious award by commissioning this impressive wall art display, incorporating the three pillars of the Athena Swan philosophy- Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Mr. Tony Archer, Audio-Visual Chief Technical Officer was instrumental in the creation and development of the wall art display as he worked through many variations of the design through using photographs, graphics, and text. This display design and development was assisted by Mr. Conor Moylan at B2B Signs and clearly demonstrates the School’s commitment to Athena Swan.
The concept of using the Cork skyline in the appropriate PRIDE colours and given a dashed effect was the result of looking for something different, that would catch the eye of the viewer as they walk down the third-floor corridor. The EIGHT skyline silhouettes were developed between Tony and Conor with the text added to fulfill the Athena Swan concept and charter.
A space was left for the mounting of a simple shelf to display the glass award which catches the early morning and evening sun. The final agreed concept and commissioned design can now be viewed on the 3rd floor of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, located in the Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, to the west of UCC’s main campus.
