Women Mean Business (WMB) is set to host its third annual Cork conference in Devere Hall, UCC on Friday April 12th.

The event is being supported by UCC, PepsiCo, the Irish Examiner and Eli Lilly.

A panel discussion will be facilitated by Jean van Sinderen-Law, Director of Development at UCC and a past recipient of WMB’s Businesswoman of the Year Award. This will be followed by networking hosted by Kay Flynn, Senior Director Finance, European Financial Shared Services Centre (Cork) for Eli Lilly & Company. Recent overall winners of the UCC Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2013, team Rooties, headed up by UCC students Rebecca Geaney (Whitechurch), Cáit Lynch (Castleisland), Maeve O’Mahony (Carrigaline), Muireann Lynch (Skibbereen) Breffney O'Dowling-Keane (Blackrock) and Teresa Daly (Kanturk), have also been invited to attend.

Susan Vinnicombe OBE, Director of the Cranfield School of Management, will deliver the keynote address to a captive audience of businesswomen and female entrepreneurs. The theme of the afternoon conference is: Women – A Balanced Business.

Susan’s particular research interests are gender diversity on corporate boards, women’s leadership styles, and the issues involved in women developing their managerial careers. Her Research Centre is unique in Europe with its focus on women leaders and the annual Female FTSE Report, which it compiles, is regarded as the premier resource on women directors.

Ann McGee, McGee Pharma International, will also take to the stage. Ann is the current recipient of the Enterprise Ireland WMB Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award and most recently was announced Services Winner at the SFA National Small Business Awards 2013.  Mary Good, Vice President, Technical Operations at PepsiCo will give an insight into her career at the company, which spans over two decades.  Mary began her career within PepsiCo’s Concentrate Operations in Cork and in the intervening years she has travelled extensively and held a number of key strategic positions.

WMB’s publisher Rosemary Delaney highlights the importance of this event: “The Cork network of businesswomen and female entrepreneurs are resilient. Their determination inspires me as a woman in business and I’m looking forward to frank, open and lively debate. We need to see more women on boards, in politics, in key decision-making positions. We need to see more female role models; women also need to throw down the ladder to support those coming up behind them. Only then will we experience that necessary balance in business that has proven to lead to success and growth”.
