The South Cork Enterprise Board (SCEB) and UCC have come together to provide sponsorship for two SME participants on UCC’s Executive MBA programme.

The recipients of this sponsorship for the 2013/14 cycle of the UCC Executive MBA are Mark Roche of MedCo Ltd. and Tom Lynch of Energy Systems Ireland.

SCEB is part of a network of thirty-five City and County Enterprise Boards across the nation. Its role is to provide assistance to existing and potential small business promoters in the South Cork Region. Their focus is on the promotion of a local enterprise culture and the SCEB provides a broad range of business supports to the SME sector. The provision of high calibre business education is part of this support and the UCC Executive MBA programme is seen as natural partner.

The sponsorship initiative was successfully piloted during the 2011/12 cycle of the MBA when Eoin Leonard of i3PT and eQtel Technologies participated in the programme. Following on from that success, the CEO of the SCEB, Sean O’ Sullivan, and Doug Kelleher, Chair, MBA Board of Management, agreed to expand the scale of sponsorship available.

Commenting on the development, Dr Joan Buckley, MBA Academic Director, says: “We are delighted to have Mark and Tom in the class. The experiences and insights they bring from the SME sector are a great addition to the class dynamic. We feel that the knowledge they are gaining from the MBA programme is providing them with invaluable business models and strategic frameworks necessary for growing and developing their companies”.
