Dr Fernando Espinoza of the Government of Ecuador’s Council for the Evaluation, Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Higher Education was welcomed to UCC recently.

Dr Espinoza came at the invitation of UCC President Dr Michael Murphy and his visit was in connection with an evaluation of Ecuador’s university system which has resulted in significant changes, including closures, of some universities. Dr Espinoza’s visit was part of a wider visit to a number of European countries where he discussed quality control processes, accreditation and student welfare systems.

As part of the visit, Dr Espinoza gave a presentation to members of UCC’s Centre for Global Development and the Regional Working Group for Latin America. He also had meetings with a number of UCC academic and administrative staff in connection with links between UCC and the Government of Ecuador universities for student and staff exchange.

Dr Pádraig Whelan of the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, who was Dr Espinoza’s point of contact in UCC, remarked that Ecuador and Ireland have cultural and historical similarities and connections and the visit would promote further internationalisation in UCC and the exchange of knowledge and skills between both countries.

Following the visit, the Government of Ecuador’s Council for the Evaluation, Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Higher Education ran the story on their own website, available by clicking here.
