UCC invites nominations for the 2013 UCC Alumni Awards
University College Cork invites UCC staff, graduates and members of the public to nominate a distinguished UCC alumnus for an Alumnus Achievement Award.
An Alumnus Achievement Award is the highest honour the University can bestow upon a graduate. The Awards programme recognises the outstanding achievements of UCC alumni in their career and/or life work. Over 60 distinguished UCC alumni have been honoured since the Awards Programme was established in 1997 including: poets, Paul Durcan and Leanne O’Sullivan; medic, Edward Kiely, comedian Des Bishop and international physicist Professor Seamus Davis. There are four Alumnus Achievement Awards presented annually; the College of Arts, Celtic Studies & Social Sciences Award, the College of Business & Law Award, the College of Medicine & Health Award and the College of Science, Engineering & Social Science Award.
Nominations are also invited for a fifth Award, the Alumnus Award for Voluntary Service to UCC. This Award introduced in 2009, recognises the outstanding voluntary contributions to the University by many graduates and only one outstanding graduate is honoured with this Award each year.
UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy will present Award recipients with an ‘acorn to oak’ trophy designed by Cork silversmith, Don O’Mahony at a gala Black-Tie Dinner in the Aula Maxima on the 29th November 2013.
Nominations should comprise a curriculum vitae and/or a comprehensive profile of the nominee, together with an outline of why this particular graduate merits an Award.
