Stress-free Travel for UCC Staff
18.08.2011

UCC will provide free bicycles to facilitate staff to make short journeys around the campus and Cork city in a new scheme launched recently by Alan Kelly TD, the Minister of State with responsibility for Public and Commuter Transport.

The initiative will reduce reliance on car and taxi journeys and improve efficiency through reduced travel times.

The pilot scheme is supported by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport’s Smarter Travel scheme. Stephan Koch, UCC Commuter Plan Manager has integrated the scheme into the University’s Commuter Plan which encourages the use of sustainable forms of transport like walking, cycling, car-sharing etc.

UCC Capital Projects Officer Niall McAuliffe said:  “This innovative scheme is already proving successful in reducing the University’s carbon footprint by displacing car journeys”.
