Good news for Budding Entrepreneurs

UCC is starting a new MSc (Innovation Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship) this September.  The MSc is a full-time one year programme offering a multi-disciplinary perspective on Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship.  

The programme will enable students from diverse backgrounds (Science, Engineering and Medicine, as well as Business and the Humanities) to acquire a professional qualification in the theory and practice of innovation, technology commercialisation and entrepreneurship.  It will provide participants with the commercial and entrepreneurial skills to develop further their engineering/ scientific careers, to obtain a management position at a later stage or eventually to start and develop their own business.

The College of Business and Law is offering €2,000 bursaries to suitably qualified applicants.

The new Masters, set in the College of Business and Law at UCC, is a collaboration between the Departments of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems, and Management and Marketing, with Law. Topics covered include Innovation Finance, Early stage Capital, Creativity and Opportunity Recognition, Accelerating a Technology Business, Intellectual Property, Managing Organisational Innovation Practices, Internationalisation and Sales, High-tech Marketing, Entrepreneurial Leadership and Building a New Venture Team.  

Speaking about the new programme, Professor Ciaran Murphy, Head of the Department Accounting, Finance and Information Systems stated that “The MSc (Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship), as a business degree, gives students a unique and in-depth understanding of how technology adds commercial value to enterprises both large and small.”  Professor Sebastian Green, Head of Department of Management and Marketing, welcoming this programme added that: “A key strength of this collaborative programme between the disciplines of Accounting, Finance, Information Systems and Management and Marketing, with Law is that this enables a holistic approach which bridges the academic with the practical and brings latest thinking from a wide knowledge base to entrepreneurship and innovation.”
