People, men and women, have made and continue to make enormous contributions to science. In the next lecture of the Annual College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) Public Lecture Series on January 26th 2011 at UCC, Dr Jean van Sinderen-Law will pay tribute to some women who have truly made a difference while also addressing challenges facing women in pursuing a career in science. The lecture will also cover the valuable education for life which a science degree gives one leading to varied and exciting career opportunities not only in the world of science but also in the world of business.

Jean van Sinderen-Law, is Director of Development and Alumni Relations at UCC and Director of Cork University Foundation. She graduated from UCC with a BSc in 1987 and a PhD in Microbiology in 1991.  Jean served as a Governor of UCC from 2001-2004 and member of the Senate of the National University of Ireland from 2002-2007. She is a former secretary of the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators and a founding member of the European Commission Marie Curie Fellowship Association. She is the Women Mean Business Businesswoman of the Year 2010.

The lecture will be delivered on Wednesday, January 26th 2011 at 8pm in Boole II Lecture Theatre. The lecture series is organised by Professor William Reville, Public Awareness of Science Officer, SEFS.
