There was also an additional €2,500 worth of prizes presented in UCC on the day and, as regional winners, the fifth year students from Coláiste Chríost Rí each received a netbook (eMachines EM350), kindly sponsored by the Cork Electronics Industry Association (CEIA). A local tie-break saw the team from Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk take second place from Hamillton High School. Second and third prizes were sponsored by ESBI. Additional prizes were sponsored by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, UCC including the prize to the highest placed team of fifth year students who didn’t qualify for a main prize. This was won by St Colman’s College, Fermoy.
The quiz is open to fifth and sixth year students studying honours maths, with a team of four students participating from each school. The students’ knowledge is tested in Engineering & Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge. The event aims to encourage interest amongst students considering CK605 Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UCC with many of the students indicating this as their career choice in their CAO applications.
