UCC to establish new link with Temple University, Japan
12.03.2010

University College Cork (UCC) is in the final stages of negotiating an official agreement with Temple University Japan (TUJ). TUJ is the international campus of Temple University, Philadelphia and is located in central Tokyo.

The new agreement builds on an existing link between UCC’s Faculty of Law and the Beasley School of Law at Temple Philadelphia. The new structure provides for an expansion of the existing Cork-Philadelphia link to Tokyo, marking a new “three-continent” network.  It will allow UCC students participating in the Master’s in Asian Studies to spend a semester in Tokyo, where they will study Japanese language, culture, business and politics, alongside Japanese and American students. In turn students from Tokyo will come to UCC to take programmes in the Humanities and Law; the exchange will also allow a higher number of Temple Philadelphia students to apply for sought after places in UCC’s Faculty of Law.  For the past number of years, students of the BCL (International) programme in UCC have studied at Temple University and there is growing demand for overseas placement in that particular programme.

Commenting on the new venture, UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy says: “The addition of Temple University Japan to UCC’s portfolio of partners represents an exciting development in UCC’s international strategy. What is interesting about this arrangement is that we are introducing a “three-way” dynamic that spans Cork, Tokyo and Philadelphia. Our strong history with Temple University in Philadelphia gives confidence that the expansion of the relationship to Temple Tokyo will be rewarding for all partners across three continents.”
