The theme of ISEE2010 is “Educating Engineers for a Changing World - leading transformation from an unsustainable global society”. Full details can be found at: http://www.ucc.ie/isee2010/
The Symposium incorporates 52 paper presentation and 24 poster presentations. All papers have been selected following an extensive peer review process conducted by an invited International Advisory Panel, comprising over 50 experts spanning 13 countries.
The Symposium, whose main sponsor is Bord Gáis, also features a number of eminent keynote speakers.
These include Professor David Wood, honorary professor at Tianjin University, China and 2010 President Elect of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI), Associate Professor David Shallcross of University of Melbourne and editor the IChemE/EFCE transactions journal “Education for Chemical Engineers”, John Mullins, CEO of Bord Gáis, whose presentation will argue that it is “A Time for Universities to Develop and Market Engineering”, and Cheryl Desha, who will also oversee the international launch of a publication entitled “Engineering Education & Sustainable Development - A Guide for Rapid Curriculum Renewal” by Cheryl Desha and Charlie Hargroves, of the Australian based engineering sustainability think tank ‘The Natural Edge Project’ (http://www.naturaledgeproject.net/). Desha will also facilitate a Delegate Workshop during the Symposium on “Accreditation and Sustainable Engineering”. There will also be a Professional Engineering Institutions (PEI) Forum, where high level representatives from Engineers Australia, Engineers Ireland, the Institution of Chemical Engineers and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers will discuss with delegates their conception of future trends in accreditation guidelines in the context of some higher level sustainability initiatives they have taken in recent times.
ISEE2010 promises to be a hugely topical and interesting few days on emerging issues surrounding engineering education through the twenty first century.
