UCC Historian Addresses Moscow Conference

UCC historian, Professor Geoffrey Roberts was among the guests at an international conference recently in Moscow to mark the 65th anniversary of the Victory over Fascism in 1945.

The conference theme was “We Won Together” and it was attended by academic, political and civil representatives from a number of different countries. It was organised by Russia’s Ministry of Education, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Intergovernmental Foundation of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Professor Roberts, who is a regular participant at conferences in Moscow, presented a paper on the postwar collapse of the Grand Alliance of Great Britain, the Soviet Union and the United States. His book Stalin’s Wars: From World War to Cold War, 1945-1953 was published by Yale University Press in 2006 and has been translated into Czech, German and Polish. Professor Roberts’ biographies of Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov and Marshal G.K. Zhukov will be published next year.
