The 2nd Annual Research Conference of the SFI-funded Irish Drug Delivery Network (IDDN) Strategic Research Cluster was held at the School of Pharmacy in UCC on June, 17th  2010.

This one day conference brought together leading investigators from the IDDN with invited international speakers on the topic of novel advanced technologies and assessments of drug delivery. The conference attempted to increase the networking capacity of IDDN through co-sponsorship with the UK-Ireland Chapter of the Controlled Release Society (UKICRS) and to provide an annual platform for discussion of drug delivery research in Ireland.

Topics discussed included: fluorescent dyes for stability testing of proteins, engineering of nano-particulates, peptide-polymer conjugates, designing novel biomaterials, oral liquid-emulsion drug delivery systems, barrier modulation for drug delivery to the eye, cell-specific targeting in the lungs, hot-melt extrusion and modified cyclodextrins for gene delivery.

The Conference was attended by researchers from universities throughout Ireland, Northern Ireland, UK and Europe as well as scientists from the pharmaceutical industry.
