Dr Tony Lewis welcomed the group to HMRC, where they met with the 4 SFI Charles Parsons Ocean Energy Research Fellows and toured the Wave tank and electrical testing facilities. They also had a presentation on HMRC research capability and future plans including the implementation of PRTLI5 developments. A number of areas were identified in which collaboration between HMRC and the National Taiwan Ocean University would develop.
The visit was part of the "Ireland-Taiwan Workshop on ICT and Energy" workshop held earlier this week to promote energy research activities.
This workshop was organised by Professor Chen-Ching Liu, Professor of Power Systems and Deputy Head of the College of Engineering, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, UCD and was co-organised by Dr Paul Leahy, SFI Stokes Lecturer in Wind Energy Engineering, UCC and Aoife Foley, EPA CCRP Research Fellow, UCC.
The workshop was held in University College Dublin (UCD) during August 30th-31st. At the Science Foundation Ireland and National Science Council, Taiwan sponsored event, speakers from Ireland and Taiwan meet to discuss the state-of-the-art of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in electric power grids, renewable energy, and smart grid subjects.
Key speakers at the workshop included Mr Dermot Byrne, Chief Executive, EirGrid, Professor Falin Chen, Director of National Taiwan University Energy Research Centre, Professor Chen-Ching Liu, Drs Dara O’Sullivan, Ray Alcorn, HMRC, UCC, Dr Paul Leahy and Ms Aoife Foley. The workshop also benefited from attendance of Irish industry, researchers, students, and government agencies in related areas.
