School of Applied Social Studies Publications Launch
05.05.2010

The School of Applied Social Studies, UCC has marked its recent academic output by launching over 80 publications at a recent event.

The publications range from core texts on social policy, through books on health, youth, community development, child trafficking, the social professions, migrants, critical hermeneutics, to journal articles, book chapters and encyclopaedia articles on a myriad of topics that define our social world (ranging from dementia to political dissent).  All of these publications produced over the past twenty-six months (i.e. since February 2008) offer a critical and humanistic perspective on the world.  Some of the publications challenge Irish social realities, while others raise European and planetary issues.

Professor David Cox, Head, College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Science (CACSSS), and Professor Graham Allen, Vice-Head of CACSSS (Research), paid tribute to the breadth and depth of publications on display.

The guest speaker, Carl O’Brien,  Irish Times Correspondent, stressed the key role of social research and critical thinking in an open and democratic society.
