2010 Press Releases
01.04.2010
Following the November 2009 flooding, repairs/renovations to the sports facilities at the Mardyke have been ongoing. The Office of Sport & Recreation is pleased to announce the re-opening of the Athletic Track on Tuesday, April 6th 2010 and Synthetic Pitch on Monday, April 12th 2010.
The GAA pitch and Prunty pitch re-opened for use in December but works continued on other facilities at the Mardyke.
A fully water-based synthetic pitch has replaced the previous synthetic pitch making it one of the most modern in Ireland.
The Athletics Track is re-opening for use until a final decision is made as to when a new track will be laid. New sand has been installed in the sand pits for the long jump and the arrival of new high jump and hurdles equipment are awaited - all destroyed in the flooding.
The Office of Sport & Recreation would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sports Operatives, members of Buildings & Estates Office, UCC, Sports-Works and Seán Ahern Electrical and all others who have worked tirelessly to get the Mardyke back in operation.
A formal opening ceremony has been arranged for a later date.
The Office of Sport & Recreation is now taking bookings for the facilities – you may phone (021) 4904752 or email b.young@ucc.ie
