This event marked the end of an innovative 3-day Business Seminar held each year for the final year Pharmacy students to provide them with an introduction to the skills they will need in their future careers. Dr Cavanagh addressed the students, and shared some wise advice on how to succeed in business and in life in general. Professor Anita Maguire, Head of the School of Pharmacy, highlighted Tom and Marie Cavanagh’s ongoing commitment and support for UCC across many aspects of the university including the development of the Cavanagh Pharmacy Building, and most importantly his active engagement with governance in the institution over many years generously giving his time and insight to many committees and groups.
This major artwork is by Irish artist Mick O’Dea, widely acknowledged as one of Ireland’s foremost portrait painters. O’Dea’s critically acclaimed paintings of the War of Independence are based on images drawn from the National Photographic Archive. The painting donated by Dr Tom Cavanagh portrays a group of the ‘Black and Tan’ paramilitaries posing for the camera before patrolling the countryside.”
