The event brings together coordinators of postgraduate programmes across the university who will advise students about their courses and outline the wide range of postgraduate programmes on offer.
Organised by the International Education Office, this free event is for International Students either taking their full degree or spending a semester or year in UCC and other Irish universities and colleges. UCC’s four colleges will be represented: College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences; College of Business and Law; College of Science, Engineering and Food Science; and the College of Medicine and Health. Staff from the International Education Office will help Non-EU students understand the application process and cost of courses, while the Graduate Studies Office personnel will assist ERASMUS students. Just a sample of programmes being highlighted are Accounting and Corporate Finance, Biopharmaceutical Engineering, Business Information Systems, Film Studies, Languages, Law, Women’s Studies as well as the PhD Scholar’s Programme in Cancer Biology.
Deirdre Crone, Events Coordinator, International Education Office, explained: “This event was born out of the interest of programme coordinators to attract more International Students into their postgraduate courses as well as by the growing number of overseas students at UCC.” Dr Caroline Crowley, Coordinator for International Student Recruitment said: “We have noticed a natural growth in American students on Study Abroad programmes returning to take their Masters or PhD at UCC where they already recognise the quality of the teaching and research, a trend that is also seen among Chinese students transitioning from their 2+2 or 3+1 undergraduate degrees directly into UCC postgraduate degrees.” “International Students enrich programmes through the addition of their diverse perspectives and experiences that in turn benefit the domestic students, lecturers and research teams while also giving all postgraduates the opportunity to develop a global network of contacts increasingly important in today’s job market.”, she added.
