Students from all over the country were also conferred at the Annual CIT Cork School of Music Conferrings.
UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy, extended his congratulations to both Music and Architectural graduates. “This is the first conferring ceremony for architectural degrees in Cork, and it marks a milestone in the development of collaboration between UCC and CIT."
CIT President, Dr Brendan Murphy said: “I am particularly pleased today to celebrate, with our colleagues from UCC, the graduation of our first cohort of Architecture graduates. The forthcoming National Strategy for Higher Education will speak about collaboration between Higher Education Institutions, the sharing of resources including staff. All I say is yes, we are doing that, and this is the proof: the parchment is the visible proof, carrying as it does the crests of NUI, UCC, HETAC and CIT.”
The founder of Billy Wilson Associates, Mr Billy Wilson, was conferred with an
Honorary Master of Arts. Mr Wilson, currently Chairman of Billy Wilson Associates, became involved in the campaign to locate a School of Architecture in Cork. "His ability to facilitate the bringing together of academic, professional and business communities on every level from contributing to the curriculum to raising the necessary funding had a huge influence on the foundation of the Cork Centre for Architectural Education in 2006", said Professor Paul Giller, Registrar and Senior Vice-President Academic, UCC.
