Options for Mature Students
09.07.2009

UCC is adopting a more "active" approach to helping mature students build higher-level skills in anticipation of economic growth. Places are being made available to mature students in a number of areas where skills shortages are known to exist through a summer entry route via the CAO with a closing date of Friday, July 17th 2009.
The University has identified "skills gaps" through an online survey and the undergraduate courses being made available to mature students address local and national needs.  Degrees from the generalist business course, the BComm, to specialist degrees in business with languages, accounting and finance are currently being advertised.  Additionally, courses in Food Marketing & Entrepreneurship, as well as Biological Sciences and Engineering, have been identified as areas of need by UCC and in recent national reports on future skills needs in the knowledge economy.

“The recession will not last forever and how we prepare now may be crucial in the not too distant future”, says UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy. “There is always a new way forward and our role both in the region and nationally, is to help people to find it and supply them with the strategic back-up needed to upskill, whatever their area of choice.”
