Eirgrid Prize for UCC Graduate
04.02.2009

Lieutenant Brian Lane, Irish Naval Service, is the winner of the Eirgrid Prize for 2008.  Eirgrid sponsor a Prize each year for the top student.
Brian is a graduate electrical engineer who works in the Naval Service. He achieved a final overall mark of 82% in the MEngSc in Sustainable Energy, the highest in a graduating class of 23.

UCC's Faculty of Engineering taught Masters (MEngSc) Programme in Sustainable Energy is now in its fourth year and is attracting considerable interest, both from applicants wishing to participate and from employers looking for suitably trained staff. In December 2008, 23 students graduated with an MEngSc, 13 of whom achieved a distinction.

A core element of the programme is industry involvement, both in terms of guest lectures to the programme (Eirgrid, South Western Services (SWS), ESB International, Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI)) and joint supervision of minor theses.
