12.06.2008

Dr Anne Looney, CEO of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) recently visited UCC's Department of Computer Science to meet this year's Munster Programming Training (MPT) students.
Dr Looney was given a description of the activities of the MPT Programme since November 2007 including short films, web pages, web animation, scientific programs or programs for mobile phones. Dr Looney and the students also exchanged ideas on the current ICT curriculum in secondary schools and IT resources available.

UCC's Head of the College of Science, Engineering & Food Science, Professor Patrick Fitzpatrick plus Computer Science staff were given a presentation by Dr Looney on the latest developments of the new National Framework for ICT Education and the major changes affecting the Leaving Cert examination.

The MPT Outreach is a programme organised by the Department of Computer Science for secondary school students from Munster area. The aim of the programme is to offer students a special training in ICT topics that are not included in the school curriculum. These topics include computer programming, web design and video production.
