“Spirit of Christmas” on campus – December 7th 2008

UCC continues its programme of Student Sundays with a special event the “Spirit of Christmas” on Sunday next, December 7th.

UCC continues its programme of Student Sundays with a special event the “Spirit of Christmas” on Sunday next, December 7th.
Staff, their families, friends and UCC neighbours are invited to participate in the programme of events throughout the day commencing at 12 noon with Mass and a children’s gift bearing service in the Honan Chapel.
This follows at 1pm with a drumming circle in the Honan Square and a performance by the Choral Society in the North/West Wing. Food, Craft and SWAP clothes and bookstands also run from 2pm to 5pm in the North Wing. Students and staff are asked to bring unwanted gifts and/or non-perishable goods to the Honan Chapel for charity from noon until 4.30pm.
UCC Staff Choir will perform in the Staff Common Room at 2pm where mulled wine and mince pies will be served. Munster rugby fans can view the The Heineken Cup fixture in the Old Bar at 3pm. Highlight of the day’s events will be the Lighting of the Christmas Tree by Mr & Mrs Claus at 5.15pm in the Honan Square accompanied by the Barrack Street Band and Carols by the Cork City Garda Choir.
Stalls include: Eve Chocolate, Lorge Chocolatier, Pottery – Rob Bradstock, Ceramics (including boxed porcelain Christmas tree hangings) – Martha Cashman, Design Works – jewellery, Holly Gone Mad - jewellery, Felt maker – scarves, hats and felt jewellery – Christina Jasmin Roser, Hand Bookbindery – Barbara Hubert, Book People, Flower for Christmas – Rita Moore, Paintings by Paul Mulvany, Igor Loginov and John Adams, Sunvale Soaps (organic soaps and lip balm), Christmas Cards and CDs – (supporting Cork Cancer Research Centre’s Christmas 2008 campaign), Nakuru Women’s Red Ribbon Project (http://www.bebo.com/NakuruWomensProject), Sushi – Tom Gems.
The Christmas theme will continue in Boole at 6pm with the showing of the Christmas Film “Bad Santa”. The Comedy Show follows at 8pm in Boole I and the day concludes with a Mistletoe Party in the Old Bar ‘till late!
