Irish Social Sciences Platform Summer School
11.07.2008

Almost 100 staff members and students spanning nine institutions and 19 disciplines gathered in Sligo last month for the inaugural Irish Social Sciences Platform (ISSP) Summer School.
Delegates participated in discussions on the cutting edge Theory and Philosophy of the Social Sciences, as well as Research and Methodologies, presented by leading experts in the field.

The Institute for Social Science in the 21st century (ISS21), based in University College Cork, is a constituent element of the Irish Social Sciences Platform, which was recently funded by the 4th PRTLI programme. The ISSP is an all-Island platform of integrated social science research and graduate training focusing on the social, cultural and economic transformations shaping Ireland in the 21st Century.

The aim of ISS21 is to become an international centre of excellence in research, publication and research education. It will foster multi-disciplinary research and inter-institutional cooperation/networking, engage with public, private and voluntary/community sectors and thus enhance understanding of social, economic and cultural transformation in Ireland within a larger global context.
