A Summer's Evening on the Quad - 3rd Annual Charity Concert at UCC
11.07.2008

Two Cork-based charities will benefit from this year's highly-anticipated charity concert, A Summer's Evening on the Quad, to be held in the magical setting of UCC's Main Quadrangle on Friday next, July 18th 2008.
Organised by UCC Security, in association with Community Policing, Barrack Street, with media sponsorship generously provided by the Irish Examiner, this concert will build on the success of last year's event which raised almost €53,000, with monies to be shared between the Children's Leukaemia Association, Mercy University Hospital, Cork, and Multiple Sclerosis Ireland (Cork Branch).

The concert will feature The Celtic Divas, with musical director David Munro, backed by The Band of An Garda Síochana and supported by Val Cooke.  Compere for the evening will be Martina Carroll, RTE with host Pascal Scott (Killinaskully). Coming together to perform beautiful music that embraces the best-loved arias right through to the folk tunes of their Celtic heritage, The Celtic Divas have graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall and the Royal Albert Hall, amongst others. Gina Hanley, Deirdre Shannon and Debra Stuart, three of Ireland and Scotland's finest singers, combine to achieve the most exquisite blend of female voices, offering a distinctive and rich fusion of Celtic-Classical music.

The Children's Leukaemia Association is a registered charity which is funded entirely by donations and fundraising initiatives carried out on a voluntary basis in order to maintain and develop the many services and programmes on offer to children suffering from leukaemia, cancer and other serious blood disorders.  The Association supports and assists children and their families during treatment, provides home-from-home holistic accommodation for families, funds research, provides essential medical equipment and counselling and organises special outings for children and their families.

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic condition of the central nervous system which affects approximately 6,000 young adults in Ireland.  Multiple Sclerosis Ireland (Cork Branch) provides support, services and information for patients, their families and friends in the Cork and Kerry region.  It also strives to increase public awareness of MS, organising regular information seminars, evenings and weekends on various MS related topics and acts as a source of referral to health professionals involved in the management of MS.

To enjoy this open-air concert at 8.00pm on Friday 18 July 2008, tickets, priced €40, are available from the Visitors' Centre, North Wing, UCC, Tel: 021 490 1876, Email: experience@ucc.ie and Pro Musica, Cork, Tel: 021 4271659, Email: sales@promusica.ie.
