Lá 'le Bríde Celebration

12 Mar 2026

Roinn na Nua-Ghaeilge host event to celebrate St Brigid's Day on campus on the 3rd of February 2026.

A sizable audience of staff, students and members of the public enjoyed talks from 3 excellent speakers. Mairéad Conneely began the day with her lecture about her homeplace Inis Meáin. She was followed by Pádraig Ó Macháin who spoke about Bríd in manuscript sources and finally Ríonach uí Ógáin who discussed Bríd in today's terms from a folklore perspective. It was a very enjoyable conference with lively discussion.
The day was finished with four students playing traditional violin in the Seomra Caidrimh:   Éadaoin Ní Mhainnín, Sophia Ní Bhraoin, Siún Ní Eartáin agus Eimear Ní Chéilleachair while people made Bridget's crosses and enjoyed a cup of tea. Many thanks to all who attended and supported the event.
