Position Filled - Research Fellow position on a SFI CONNECT (BAV) Targeted project with an industry partner.

7 Jul 2023
The School of Computer Science & Information Technology at UCC is internationally recognised for its research on innovative networking and systems research.  It also plays a lead role in the national SFI-funded CONNECT Centre for Future Networks & Communications and the SFI-funded Blended Autonomous Vehicle (BAV) spoke, a multi-centre research programme.

We are now seeking to fill a Research Fellow position on a SFI CONNECT (BAV) Targeted project with an industry partner. Linked to the European C-Roads initiative, roadside communications equipment is being rolled out on parts of the national road network. This will facilitate a number of advisory and traffic efficiency services. The technology is a combination of wireless and emerging cellular standards. This research project will provide a comprehensive simulation analysis to study the communications scalability of providing such services when connected vehicle penetration rates increase. This study will consider a variety of conditions to determine reliability of such services. Innovative approaches should be proposed to improve the reliability of the system and with the performance of system evaluated to support future envisioned connected vehicular services and with a future focus on increased autonomy.
The applicant will further spend a number of months identifying opportunities for future vehicular communications research, focused on increased autonomy and will be expected to prepare a vision paper related to same.

The appointed person will be expected to make significant contributions to the direction and progress of the project, working closely with the project investigator Dr Aisling O’Driscoll, representing UCC in projects meetings, engaging closely with C-Roads national and European stakeholders and contributing to project reports. The candidate will need to exhibit innovation in proposing cutting edge research to progressively further the field and identify opportunities for future innovation and collaboration.

Applicants are invited from those with a Ph.D. qualification (Computer Science or related discipline e.g., Electronic Engineering), several years of relevant postdoctoral research and a well-established publication record in vehicular communication networks. Importantly, candidates should be able to demonstrate leadership and innovation in their field and have a proven track record collaborating and leading research initiative within academia or Industry. We especially encourage applications from those with detailed simulation experience and understanding of wireless and cellular vehicular communication stacks.
