PG Programmes - MCh Surgical Science
MCh Surgical Science
The MCh in Surgical Science is an online/blended programme with an annual intake, which comprises taught modules with a dissertation. The aim of the programme is to provide postgraduate education in surgery for medical graduates, to enhance their academic understanding of the speciality, prior to or during early surgical training. The taught modules consist of formal teaching material and course work, individual assignments including peri-operative case studies, journal reviews, reflective practice and discussion boards, towards the development of a competitive clinical, teaching and research portfolio. This Masters programme will also provide structured research opportunities.
This postgraduate taught masters programme is available on a part-time basis over two years (24 months) and on a full-time basis over one year (12 months). We do however recommend that those opting for the full-time option are not in full-time employment. Students on both options take taught modules to the value of 90 credits, incorporating a blended learning approach with significant use of online learning resources. Contact teaching sessions are scheduled three times per year (November, January and March) and occur on Friday evenings and Saturdays in the Brookfield Health Sciences complex in UCC. These can be attended remotely where the students are overseas, opting for fully online participation.
