Teddy Bears Hospital 2025

Each year, MedSoc invites Junior and Senior Infant classes from primary schools around Cork to our Teddy Bear Hospital.
The children can bring their ‘sick’ or ‘hurt’ teddies into our makeshift hospital in Devere Hall, in UCC. It’s an opportunity to alleviate any qualms or fears young kids may have about attending healthcare environments such as hospitals and GP practices. The ‘doctors’ in our Teddy Bear Hospital are volunteers from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year medicine, donning white coats and scrub tops, who guide the children through our various activities and help get them accustomed to a medical environment.
Our event is aimed to help young children ages 4-6 who may have worries about doctors and hospitals, which can be daunting at this age. Our hospital features three main stations mirroring a hospital experience: a waiting room, a treatment room and an exercise area. In the waiting room young children put on some medical scrubs, check out some medical equipment, use a stethoscope while engaging in fun anatomy puzzles and colourful activities. In the treatment room, medical students assess and treat the teddies with medical supplies. In the exercise area, children are taught a variety of exercise routines to support their teddies return to full health.
This year the Medical Society committee is running the Teddy Bear Hospital from the 10th - 13th of February 2025.
