Paul O'Brien

Biography

Paul is a third-year Computer Science student at University College Cork. His studies have given him experience in software development, embedded systems, web development and computer networking. He has worked on a variety of projects, including refactoring a legacy ray tracing application into a modern API, building a gaze controlled robot and a plant monitoring system using a raspberry pi and sensors. Paul is currently working as a Research Assistant with the Marine Geoscience Group, where he is focused on computational methods for 3D shape analysis in marine sediment research.

Research Interests

Paul’s research interests include computational geometry, 3D data processing, and software development for scientific applications. His current work involves extending 2D shape analysis methods to 3D, developing tools for analysing scanned marine sediment particles.
