    Gender Equality initiative at University College Cork aims for 60:40 gender balance on decision-making bodies

    Cork, Ireland, February 1, 2017. The gender equality action-research project at University College Cork, GENOVATE, is aiming for 60:40 gender balance on decision-making bodies in the university. This forms one of the 8 actions on gender equality committed to by UCC, each of which targets the underrepresentation of women at senior levels of university life, as low as 16 per cent in some areas. Driving gender balance, a minimum of 40 per cent of each gender on all strategic decision-making boards and committees will in turn capture the knowledge and skills of all experienced staff, enhancing innovation and research excellence.

    GENOVATE at University College Cork highlights potential positive impact of a central equality unit

    Cork, Ireland, 7th December 2016. GENOVATE at University College Cork (UCC), an action-research project for gender equality, part of an EU funded Consortium of seven European universities, has highlighted the potential benefit of establishing a multidimensional Equality Unit at the heart of the university setting. The GENOVATE team developed a model incorporating an eight-point action plan to increase the representation of women at senior levels, enabling the true pool of talent across all disciplines and enhancing research excellence in Ireland through diversity.

    Monday October 24th 2016. GENOVATE at University College Cork (UCC), an action-research project and one of seven partners in a European consortium promoting gender equality, is delighted to launch The GENOVATE Hub. The Hub enables engagement across the university to support the implementation of the Gender Equality Action Plan, investigated and developed by the interdisciplinary GENOVATE team at UCC over a four year period.

    Transforming Commitment into Action - towards gender equality for academic and research excellence

    This is the theme of the GENOVATE Annual Convention to be held in UCC in March 2015. GENOVATE partners will come together to discuss the challenges and opportunities of transforming commitment to gender equality into practice in our universities.

    A symposium and learning market will be held on March 11th (2.00-5.00pm). All are welcome.

    Speakers include Advisor to the European Commission on gender and research Professor Ines Sanchez de Madariaga, Mr. Muiris O'Connor (Higher Education Authority, Ireland) and Professor Uduak Archibong (GENOVATE International Director).
