Creating Organisational Change: The Recommendations of the HEA Expert Group On Gender Equality in Higher Education 

Professor Pat O'Connor,

Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Limerick, Ireland.

Professor Pat O’Connor is Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Limerick, Ireland.  Her research interests revolve around gender: most recently in the context of higher education, with a particular focus on management, excellence, organizational culture and careers.  Her roughly 100 publications include six books (including Management and Gender In Higher Education) and over 60 peer reviewed refereed journal articles.  She is a member of WHEM (Women in Higher Education Management Network) and has been involved in three international research consortia: most recently the EU funded Framework 7 project, FESTA (2012-17). A research evaluator for the European Science Foundation; for Nordic Spaces; Austrian Science Foundation etc, she was Chair of the International Research Panel for Linnaeus funding.  A feminist, she was the first woman to be appointed at (full) professor level in the University of Limerick in 1997; and the first woman to be appointed Faculty Dean in 2000, a position that she was re-appointed to by three Presidents  over the next 10 years. She has held visiting professorships at the Institute of Education; and at the Universities of Aveiro; Linkoping, Deakin and Melbourne and currently at University College Dublin. She was a member of the five person HEA National Review on Gender Equality in Irish Higher Education Institutions (June 2016).
