Department of English Success in Global Undergraduate Awards
Three Department of English students have been Highly Commended in the 2026 Global Undergraduate Awards.
Tjitske Rinske Anna Jurgens has been Highly Commended for an essay titled "Monstrous Identity as a Liberating Force in Chase Berggrun’s R E D and Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu", written for Dr Miranda Corcoran.
Bláithín Smiddy has been Highly Commended for an essay titled “Patriarchal Conditions of Absolute Reality: Reclaiming The Haunting”, also written for Dr Miranda Corcoran.
Catalina Vattimo has been Highly Commended for an essay titled “Prometheus Reprised: A Comparative Study of Neoplatonism and Posthumanism in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Jeanette Winterson’s Frankissstein”, written for Dr Julia Empey.
Given the competitiveness of the Global Awards, this is a considerable achievement. Many congratulations to Tjitske, Bláithín and Catalina on their success, and congratulations also to Dr Corcoran and Dr Empey. Their achievements will be celebrated at the Royal Irish Academy in October, and at a School Awards Event later in the semester.
