ID+ Roundtable Meeting

The ID+ Project in UCC promotes the fundamental rights of people with intellectual disabilities to attend third-level education and to progress to paid employment (for more details see https://www.ucc.ie/en/idplus/)

On Friday, November 11th, B.Ed. SSPE Lecturers Dr. Diarmuid Lester and Dr. João Costa attended the UCC ID+ Roundtable to share and learn from the other ID+ teaching fellows from a range of colleges and disciplines in UCC. The focus was on experiences to date of including students from the Certificate in Social Citizenship (CSC) with undergraduate students to co-learn and co-create across different strands. The roundtable session gave the ID+ teaching fellows the opportunity to present to the UCC Deputy President and Registrar Prof. Stephen Byrne who listened very carefully and provided meaningful and constructive comments to each presentation. In the B.Ed. SSPE programme, Dr. Lester and Dr. Costa, along with Ms. Kate Feeney, are teaching fellows with the ID+ project and they are offering students the opportunity to undertake certain programme modules in Semester 1 and Semester 2.  Year 3 students Ms. Niamh De Jong and Ms. Aoife Linehan have kindly volunteered as ID+ Peer Buddies during the first semester to the four CSC students who chose to engage with the B.Ed. SSPE programme, under the strand of Wellbeing.
