Spark to Sport Free Webinar Series

UCC Sport & Mardyke Arena’s – Performance Manger Jeff Gomez has compiled a series of FREE webinars to run over the next two weeks. With a range of speakers across a variety of topics, it’s a series not to be missed. The initial series starts on Monday 11 May and runs to May 22. Past webinars will be available to watch on playback.

Trevor Woods 1 to 1.45 pm 11/05 Trevor Woods is UCC Exercise Physiologist.  His passion has always been to help individuals reach their physical performance goals, whether that be the novice exerciser or the elite level Olympic athlete. As a competitive triathlete himself for over 3 decades, his highlight is standing on the start line of the 2002 Commonwealth Games triathlon representing Northern Ireland. He will be talking to us on how to stay healthy and the importance of exercising.

 

 

Ciaran Sheehan 1 to 1.45pm 12/05 Ciaran Sheehan is a former Australian rules footballer with Carlton Football Club. After 4 years on Carlton’s playing list in Melbourne, he transitioned into a role with the AFL Players association as their Alumni Programs coordinator. He recently relocated to Cork and is now a recruitment consultant with Euro Executive Recruitment. He is a current member of the Cork senior football team and was a member of Cork’s All-Ireland winning football team in 2010. Ciaran has also lined out for Ireland in the International rules series on 3 occasions.
Dr Orla O’Sullivan 1 to 1.45 pm 13/05 Dr. Orla O’Sullivan is a Computational biologist with Teagasc Food Research Centre, APC Microbiome Ireland and VistaMilk. Her research focuses on profiling the gut microbiome in elite and non-elite athletes and understanding if there’s a link between physical fitness and gut health. In the past she has worked with athletes from the IRFU, Cricket Ireland and Sports Ireland Institute.
Dr Fiona Chambers 1 to 1.45 pm 14/05 Dr Fiona Chambers will be talking to us on how to develop our superpower in this pandemic and create sustainable solutions to redesign sport and physical activity during Covid19 and post-Covid19

 

Joe Normoyle 11.30 to 12.15pm 19/05 Joe Normoyle is a Physiotherapist at the Mardyke Arena UCC and Cork city FC. He will be sharing with us ideas on how to remain healthy and proactive during this pandemic.

 

 

Mary Fitzgerald & Paddy Cadell 1 to 1.45 pm 19/05 Mary FitzGerald & Paddy Cadell are part of the Quercus Talented Student’s Sport Programme. They will be talking to us about mindset and resilience
 

 

Morgan Buckley

 

1 to 1.45 pm 20/05 Morgan Buckley is the Director of Sport for UCC and will be sharing his thoughts what the prospect of sport cohabitating with Covin-19
Dr Nick Winkleman 10-10.45 am 21/05 Dr Nick Winkelman is the IRFU’s Head of Athletic Performance and Science.  He has a wide-ranging brief within Irish Rugby developing and establishing athletic performance best-in-class standards for players within the high performance pathway.  Working with all the Athletic Performance leads and staff across the provinces, Nick drives education within the Irish system to ensure our professional staff and players are supported with cutting edge insight and data to support athletic development and on-field performance. He will be talking to us about his new book “the language of coaching: the art and science of teaching movement”.
Michael McGeehin 1 to 1.45 pm 21/05 Michael McGeehin is the Director of Sport Ireland Coaching. He will be talking to us on the way to support coaches in time of uncertainty
Kieran McGeeney 1 to 1.45 pm 22/05 Kieran is the current manager of the Armagh senior football team. He will be sharing with us his thoughts on thinking outside of box and the importance of mindset in coaching.
