UPDATE ON MEETINGS

Some updates concerning UV4Growth activities, please mark your diaries:

• The large, general network meeting will take place April 15-16, 2013, with a welcome reception in the evening of April 14. Prof Otmar Urban is the chair of the organising committee. There will be two full days of plenary and short talks, oral poster presentations, as well as short reports from the various reviewing/best practice groups. We hope the meeting will be as successful as its predecessor, the meeting in February 2011 in Szeged, which attracted nearly 90 attendees. This meeting will take place in Mikulov, in the Czech-Republic. Mikulov is within easy reach of Vienna-airport. Registration will start shortly. The four sessions with reflect the main research interests in UV4Growth, focussing on (1) UV-signaling, (2) UV-induced metabolites and human health, (3) organisms under UV-B and (4) UV-B and ecological interactions. This meeting will be combined with the annual MC-meeting, and a training school. More details to follow. Please keep an eye on the UV4Growth website (http://www.ucc.ie/en/uv4growth/).

• There will be a meeting of the EU-outreach group in Copenhagen on December 19, 2012. The main purpose of the group meeting is to draw-up a document to influence Horizon2020 (and further future calls). There is funding for one more participant to take part, preferentially, a member of WG4 (plants and environment), but others are also welcome although we may not necessarily be able to reimburse them. • There will be a meeting in Helsinki on November 19 and 20, 2012 of the group working towards standardisation of flavonoid-measurement protocols. This meeting is the direct result of discussions in year 2 about relative quality of data obtained through extraction protocols as compared to measurements with for example dualex. The group has funding for at least two more attendees. Interested, please contact the organiser, Prof Riitta Julkunen-Tiitto (riitta.julkunen-tiitto@uef.fi).

• There will be a meeting on November 10, 2012 in Pecs Hungary. The aim of the meeting is to collect, critically discuss methods measuring antioxidants which are relevant to plant UV studies in UV4growth. The group has funding for at least two more attendees. Interested, please contact the organiser, Prof Éva Hideg (ehideg@brc.hu).

• The Action is open for STSM-applications. See website for details. Students/Early researchers can learn techniques/do short experiments in laboratories of UV4Growth members in other countries, funded through COST (minimum stay 1 week).

• Finally, the core-group (chair, vice-chair and leaders of WG/TG) will meet in Brussels to discuss progress, but also to start planning for year 4. If there are any issues that you want to be discussed, please send to one of the core-group members.

And as always……young researchers are particularly welcome at all activities!
