On 9th October, CoMH Celebrated our Quercus College Scholarship Recipients.

UCC's Quercus Awards acknowledge the significant academic achievement of students who have achieved top marks in the examinations of Summer 2024.

The School of Public Health was delighted to welcome Lauren Buckley, Emily Gallogley and Immanuela Okobia into UCC's Quercus family, a cause of great celebration for the students, their friends and their family.

Lauren and Emily were presented with their Quercus certificates by our Head of College, Prof Helen Whelton. Immanuela's certificate was presented in absentia.

Professor Helen Whelton congratulated all 37 recipients across the entire College: “Today, we gather to recognise the outstanding achievements of our Quercus scholarship recipients. This ceremony is a celebration of their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence. Quercus is the Latin for oak, and is used as a symbol in UCC — ‘from acorn to mighty oak’ — to represent the growth and development of an individual that arises from nurturing talent through support, challenge, and mentoring. Today we see and celebrate that growth.”

Professor  Stephen Byrne, Deputy President and Registrar of UCC said:  “The award of these prizes today acknowledges your academic achievement in a public way. It represents a judgement by your teachers that you have achieved a First Class result in your subject, that you have excelled in your year. That is what we hope you acquire from your time here in UCC, a life-long habit and a life-long love of learning and living some great experiences. Excellence underpins everything we do at UCC, and the University recognises exceptional students when they join, as well as those who develop their talents while studying here.”

Congratulations to all our students, their families and SoPH staff and on this very significant academic achievement.
