Today is World Mental Health Day!

10 Oct 2024
Prof. Ella Arensman, Head of the School of Public Health UCC and Chief Scientist, National Suicide Research Foundation.

In recognition of World Mental Health Day, PROSPERH is facilitating a webinar on Friday, October 11 (13:00 – 14:30 CET).

The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day is “It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace”, which highlights the importance of fostering supportive work environments.

In recent years, rapid changes have occurred in the workplace. New forms of work and work management have arisen, which can affect the mental and physical health of workers in ways, both positive and negative, that are not yet well understood.

In 2022, 46% of respondents in a Flash Eurobarometer survey reported being under severe time pressure and work overload, and the costs for work-related depression alone in the European Union are over EUR 600 billion per year.

A research project at University College Cork, coordinated by Professor Ella Arensman, Head of School of Public Health UCC and co-lead, Dr Eve Griffin, CEO, National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF) on mental health is examining this very issue.

The ‘Promoting Positive Mental and Physical Health in Changing Work Environments’, PROSPERH  project is conducting research targeting individual workers, peers, organisations and employers with an evidence-backed health intervention tool designed to enable companies to improve the mental and physical health of their workforces.

In recognition of World Mental Health Day, PROSPERH is facilitating a webinar:

Friday, October 11 (13:00 – 14:30 CET), involving the WISEWORK-C cluster in which PROSPERH is a member.

‘Five Horizon Europe Projects – 5 approaches to mental health’

Details of the webinar are available here

On Thursday, October 10th, the NSRF, HEA and UCC are co-hosting a Seminar with a focus on Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention in the Workplace, and other priority topics related to the prevention of self-harm and suicide.
